Set up Google Wifi to work with Xfinity
I currently have Xfinity. I now want to set up multiple Nest wifi points to make wifi strong across the house.
I have three Nest Wifi routers, one acts as a router and the other acts as points (with wired backhauling to make sure the speed is fast)
However, I recently ran into issues where wifi would be slow in some rooms, and I want to try to fix it by turning on the Bridge mode on your Wireless gateway.
This way, there would only be one wifi network in my home.
Xfinity offers documentation on how to do this.

According the Xfinity, this is why you need to turn on the Bridge Mode.
The Xfinity Wireless Gateway puts the technology of a modem and router into one piece of equipment, creating the fastest, most reliable in-home WiFi.
We understand, however, that there may be times when you may want to use your own router.
To do this on our network, you will have to enable the Bridge Mode feature on the Wireless Gateway, which turns off its routing capabilities while leaving the modem capabilities on. Then, you may connect and use your own router. Note: Any ethernet port can be used but only one device can be connected to the gateway while in Bridge Mode.
To enable Bridge Mode
- Go to
10.0.0.1
- It will launch you into a login
- Login using
admin
andpassword
(Later I've changed it to HHyy) - Select Enable bridge, it will show the warning, and then it will enable bridge mode.
That's it. Now it's time to go and fix the Google Router issue.
Lessons Learned:
- Be careful when you turn on the Bridge mode. It will shut down the wifi and the current ethernet.
- Only one ethernet port will be working. Other port will stop working.
- Make sure you have the ethernet cable in place otherwise you'll have trouble using your macbook to enable/disable the Bridge mode.
- Once you've turned on the bridge mode, you should only connect one port from the internet modem. There's only one public IP issued by the service provider, and because of that, you should connect that directly to your Google Router.
